CycleUp Textiles and the Circular Economy

CycleUp Textiles is a circular economy Social enterprise. But what does that mean?

What is the Circular Economy?

The circular economy aims to minimise waste and keep, in this case textiles in use for longer through reuse in the first instance so we try to sell everything through the RWN charity shop first.

Anything that can not be sold, it may be damaged, stained or not selling after a certain period of time, will be deconstructed by our upcycling team and taken to be upcycled into something new that will last for a long time to come again.

We want to stop as much textile waste going to landfill by finding a meaningful way to resuse.

How we make our upcycled textile Tote Bags

As in the circular economy model we look to reuse first of all, only products that are unable to be sold again are used by CycleUp Textiles.

When we take something that was one thing to make it into something new there is a deconstruction process that must be done delicately and to preserve as much of the material as possible. We keep everything, buttons, zips can all be reused.

Then comes the design process, the type and size/shope of material will determine what it can be used for. We need strong hard wearing material for our Tote Bags but can use lighter material to make our shopper bags and wreaths. Every product is unique because of this process and it allows our team to unleash their creativity each time they make something.

All products are handmade in Athleague,

Co Roscommon, Ireland and are quality checked before being sold in our shop, online or at markets.
